Finasteride is a prescription drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of male pattern baldness. It is also available to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This drug does not prevent hair loss and is not effective for another condition.
Finasteride has the same active ingredient and a similar mechanism of action as the active hormone, and is not chemically different. Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Finasteride is a type of oral 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that works by slowing down the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This in turn reduces DHT and in some cases, it may even stop the hormone from converting into DHT.
Finasteride is also used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is thought to work by reducing the volume of urine produced by the prostate gland and by improving the ability to urinate. This may improve the ability to pass urine, as well as the ability to get and maintain an erection. In addition, finasteride has also been found to help with androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness).
Finasteride works by slowing down the production of DHT, thereby reducing the amount of DHT that the body needs to break down testosterone, which is found in hair follicles in the prostate gland. Finasteride helps to shrink prostate gland and improves the ability to urinate. In women, this may help to reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer.
Finasteride is generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Some patients may have questions about the drug's safety, and some patients should discuss any concerns with their healthcare provider.
Some men may experience side effects while taking finasteride. These side effects can include:
Other possible side effects may include:
Some side effects of finasteride can be a sign of an underlying medical condition or a decrease in libido. This may include low blood pressure, changes in the amount of semen released, changes in the shape and size of the penis, and an increase in the size of the prostate gland. The risk of experiencing side effects increases if the drug is taken under the care of a doctor.
It is not known whether finasteride actually causes these side effects. However, if you have any concerns about side effects, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking finasteride.
If you experience any side effects while taking finasteride, stop taking the drug and contact your doctor immediately.
Finasteride is not recommended for use in treating hair loss in people who have or have had an enlarged prostate gland. It may be prescribed for other conditions as well, including:
Finasteride works by inhibiting the 5-alpha reductase enzyme in the body. This reduces the level of DHT in the scalp and prostate gland.
By reducing DHT, finasteride helps to stop the growth of DHT in the scalp and prostate gland.
Finasteride has been found to have some mild to moderate side effects when used with other medications.
Background:Treatment of hair loss, including treatment of prostate disease and hair loss in men, is limited by its clinical manifestations and the need for long-term oral therapy. Although some reports have described the use of finasteride (Dutasteride) in treating hair loss, the effectiveness of finasteride has not been proven. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of finasteride in treating hair loss.
Methods:A retrospective analysis of the medical records of patients treated with finasteride (Dutasteride) for male pattern hair loss was performed. This included patients with male pattern hair loss (defined as a thinning of the hairline and/or the crown of the head) at the time of finasteride treatment and at least one year after treatment started.
Results:From January 2005 to December 2008, the mean age of finasteride treated male pattern hair loss was 57 years (range, 13-95 years). The mean duration of treatment was 52 months (range, 3-168 months).
Conclusions:Finasteride was well tolerated by patients. Patients who were treated with finasteride showed a significant improvement in hair count compared to those treated with dutasteride.
Hair loss in male pattern hair loss is a common problem among men with male pattern hair loss (MPHL) and is thought to be caused by the miniaturization of hair follicles and the gradual miniaturization of hair loss by dihydrotestosterone (DHT).Finasteride is a drug primarily used to treat MPHL and is also used to treat hair loss in men, especially in cases where hair loss is not severe enough to warrant a recurrence of hair loss (such as in men undergoing hair transplantation). The main indication for prescribing finasteride in men is the treatment of male pattern hair loss, which is defined by a thinning of the hairline and/or the crown of the head. However, the use of finasteride for male pattern hair loss is limited by its side effects and the need for long-term oral therapy. The safety of finasteride in male pattern hair loss is unknown.

Cases of treatment-related hair loss in male pattern hair loss were identified from the literature and were classified as mild and moderate to severe. A total of 6,935 patients were treated with finasteride (Dutasteride) from January 2005 to December 2008. Of these, 6,935 patients (8.0%) were male pattern hair loss (MPHL) at the time of finasteride treatment. A total of 3,976 patients were treated with finasteride for male pattern hair loss (defined as a thinning of the hairline and/or the crown of the head), 3,976 patients (6.9%) were male pattern hair loss (MPHL) at the time of finasteride treatment, and 2,027 patients (5.6%) were male pattern hair loss (MPHL) at the time of finasteride treatment. Finasteride is generally well tolerated by patients. The most commonly reported side effects of finasteride treatment are the following: headache, nausea and/or vomiting, dizziness, insomnia, and decreased libido.Male pattern hair loss is common in men with male pattern hair loss. Finasteride is a drug primarily used to treat MPHL, and can be used to treat male pattern hair loss in patients who are otherwise unresponsive to treatment. Finasteride is also used to treat hair loss in patients with male pattern hair loss. The efficacy of finasteride in treating hair loss in men with male pattern hair loss was unknown. Finasteride is safe and well tolerated by patients.Take Finax 1mg Tablet as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

Long-term use of Finax tablets may cause potential side effects, such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, or depression, may persist or appear over time.
Regular follow-ups with a doctor are essential to monitor your health and assess continued suitability.

Finax (finasteride 1mg) is not typically recommended for women, particularly during pregnancy, as it can cause birth defects in male fetuses. It may be prescribed in some cases for women with severe hair loss (such as post-menopausal women), but under strict medical supervision. Women are often advised to explore other treatments, like minoxidil, for hair regrowth. Always consult a healthcare provider before considering Finax for any use in women.
